Nigeria in the Global Marketplace! ๐
### Beyond National Borders: Global Trade Dynamics! ๐ข
No country in the world is completely self-sufficient. International trade allows nations to export what they produce cheaply and import goods they lack:
**1. Core Concepts**:
* **Visible Exports**: Physical items shipped abroad (Nigerian Bonny Light crude oil, sesame seeds, cashew nuts, cocoa).
* **Visible Imports**: Physical machinery, electronics, cars, and refined petroleum.
* **Invisible Trade**: Cross-border services (freight insurance, international air travel, fintech payments).
* **Balance of Trade (BOT)**:
$$\text{BOT} = \text{Visible Exports} - \text{Visible Imports}$$
* A country enjoys a **Trade Surplus** when exports exceed imports, and suffers a **Trade Deficit** when imports exceed exports!
**2. The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)**:
* Headquartered in Accra, Ghana, AfCFTA creates a single continent-wide market of **1.4 billion people with a combined GDP of over $3.4 trillion**!
* Eliminates tariffs on $90\%$ of goods traded across African borders.
* Enables Nigerian manufacturers and tech innovators in Lagos, Aba, and Kano to sell freely into Kenya, Egypt, South Africa, and Ghana without punitive import duties!
Core Takeaway: Balance of Trade is Visible Exports minus Visible Imports. AfCFTA creates a single tariff-free market across Africa for over 1.4 billion consumers!
