Integrity: The Foundation of a Prosperous Nigeria! π‘οΈ
### Building an Ethical and Just Nation! π³π¬
Corruption is the abuse of entrusted power for private gain. It stifles job creation, degrades public hospitals, and wastes national wealth.
**1. Institutional Watchdogs in Nigeria**:
* **EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission)**:
* Established by the EFCC Act of 2004.
* Mandate: Investigates and prosecutes money laundering, advance fee fraud (419), cybercrime, bank fraud, and misappropriation of public funds.
* **ICPC (Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission)**:
* Established under the Corrupt Practices Act of 2000.
* Mandate: Targets systemic corruption, bribery, contract inflation, and institutional integrity in public ministries and agencies.
* **Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) & Tribunal (CCT)**:
* Mandates public officers to declare all personal assets upon assumption and departure from office.
**2. The Rule of Law (A.V. Dicey)**:
* **Supremacy of the Law**: No individual, president, or governor is above the law.
* **Equality Before the Law**: All citizens are subject to the same ordinary laws applied by ordinary courts.
* **Predominance of Legal Spirit**: Citizen liberties result from judicial decisions and constitutional safeguards!
Core Takeaway: The EFCC tackles financial crimes and money laundering; the ICPC focuses on bribery and systemic corruption in government; the Rule of Law ensures nobody is above the law!
