### From Daily Ledgers to Executive Financial Reports! 🏢
At the end of an accounting period, accountants test ledger accuracy:
**1. The Trial Balance**:
* A statement of all debit and credit balances extracted from the ledgers.
* If double entry was adhered to, **Total Debits MUST equal Total Credits**!
**2. Six Errors that DO NOT Affect Trial Balance Agreement**:
Even when the Trial Balance totals match perfectly, these hidden errors may exist:
1. **Error of Omission**: A transaction was completely omitted from both books.
2. **Error of Commission**: Correct amount posted to the correct side, but of the wrong person's personal account (e.g., entered in T. Bello instead of A. Bello).
3. **Error of Principle**: Transaction violates accounting principles (e.g., buying a generator motor van posted as an expense rather than a fixed asset!).
4. **Error of Original Entry**: An incorrect figure entered in the prime entry book and posted to both accounts (e.g., ₦5,200 recorded as ₦2,500).
5. **Compensating Errors**: Two separate errors on opposite sides that coincidentally cancel each other out!
6. **Complete Reversal of Entries**: Correct accounts and figures, but debit and credit entries were completely swapped!
Core Takeaway: The Trial Balance tests mathematical accuracy. Errors of Principle, Commission, Omission, and Reversal do not disrupt Trial Balance equality!
