The Three Arms of Government 🏛️
### Why do we divide power in a democracy?
To prevent tyranny and protect citizens' freedoms, the Nigerian 1999 Constitution divides governance into three independent arms:
1. **The Legislature (National Assembly: Senate & House of Representatives)**:
* **Makes laws** for peace, order, and good governance.
2. **The Executive (President, Governors, Ministers, Police)**:
* **Implements and enforces laws** passed by the legislature.
3. **The Judiciary (Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Courts)**:
* **Interprets the law** and resolves disputes with impartial justice.
Core Takeaway: Legislature makes laws; Executive enforces laws; Judiciary interprets laws.
